The Headmaster's Welcome

Ian Wilmshurst with his wife Helen and daughters, Anna and Natalie

Welcome to King's. I am delighted to be writing this introduction as the new Headmaster of this wonderful school. We are very fortunate to be located in this beautiful part of Somerset within the town of Bruton. My wife, Helen and our two daughters, Anna and Natalie, have been made to feel very welcome and we have settled in quickly.

The small size of King's is one of the School's strengths and we can genuinely focus on each individual pupil, as well as offering a huge range of opportunities. There are four boys' and three girls' houses with day pupils fully integrated with boarders. As Headmaster, I need all pupils to get involved in life here at King's. When I see each new pupil I set them three very important challenges:

1. to do their best academically
2. to make the most of their talents outside the classroom
3. and to look after each other

The balance between the academic, extra-curricular and pastoral is very important but the focus has to be on what takes place in the classroom. All pupils are expected to work hard to fulfil their academic potential within a caring and supportive environment. We are justifiably proud of our pastoral care; care that is underpinned by our Christian ethos. I think it is important that all pupils enjoy their schooldays at King's, but it is also important that they make a positive difference to the life of the School as well as appreciating how fortunate they are to be here. King's has a history stretching back nearly 500 years and, more importantly, an exciting future.

Our website provides information on all aspects of school life but the only way to appreciate fully what King's has to offer is for you to visit us. I would be delighted to meet you and arrange for pupils to show you around their school. You will be guaranteed a very warm welcome.
